Maggie Niekamp

Maggie Niekamp, violinist, is an active performer and teacher. She recently graduated with her Masters in Violin Performance from the UC’s College-Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Timothy Lees, former Concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony. Maggie received her BM degree in Violin Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Stephen Rose, principal second violinist of The Cleveland Orchestra, and Brian Lewis. 

Maggie began playing the violin at the age of four in her hometown of Akron, Ohio. Her former teachers include Francesca Chase, Marlene Moses, and Amy Barlowe. She spent three summers at the Meadowmount School of Music, and received fellowships from the Chautauqua Institution, and the National Repertory Orchestra. Most recently, Maggie served as a violinist in the 2022 Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra in Charleston, South Carolina. She has also performed in solo masterclasses for Almita Vamos, Ilya Kaler, and David Kim. 

Her love for chamber music was nurtured through studies at CREDO summer music festival in Oberlin, as well as working with members of the Cleveland, Cavani, and Ariel Quartets. Maggie performs regularly with Cincinnati’s Immaculata Chamber Music Series and recently curated a Women’s History Month concert for the series.

An avid orchestral musician, Maggie currently holds the position of Section Violin in the Dayton Philharmonic, the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, and Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra. Maggie also serves as a substitute violinist with ensembles including the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. In her free time, Maggie enjoys practicing yoga, running, and cooking.
